ProPlant Vanilla Pros & Cons: Gundry MD Product Review by Lectin Free Gourmet

Updated: Feb 18, 2023

Get the truth about Gundry MD ProPlant complete shake from taste, texture, how it stacks up to other protein shakes I've used and how to use ProPlant in recipes.

ProPlant Complete Shake is a Gundry MD dietary supplement that is marketed as a protein shake with benefits. On front label are three bullets: 1) supports muscle growth and recovery, 2) promotes smooth, comfortable digestion, and 3) contains lectin-free proteins, fiber and micronutrients. In this review, I will put these statements to the test, plus I'll let you know how I use it in my recipes.

When it comes to protein shake, I've tried my fair share. Historically, I've used protein shakes post workout for the sole purpose of muscle growth and recovery. Before I went lectin free, I used whey-based protein shakes like Pure Protein, Muscle Milk, Kroger, Kirklands, and Sprouts brands. Typically, I'd work out for an hour by doing 30 minutes of cardio followed by weight training. Then directly after my workout, I'd down a protein shake.

If I've worked hard, muscle soreness is unavoidable. But I can tell if a protein shake is doing it's job if I can go about my day without too much muscle fatigue after a good workout. All the brands I've tried in the past seem to do the trick for muscle recovery. But can ProPlant, a plant-based protein shake, keep up performance-wise with the whey products I've used in the past?

YES! And, ProPlant has clean plant-based proteins ingredients and it's sweetened with stevia, not sucralose. I really like that. These days, I'm a bit older and wiser than when I used those other shakes. Now, following a rigorous workout, I mix up my go-to ProPlant shake recipe which is featured below. And, while my workouts are no less strenuous, my muscles seem no more tired or strained after downing my post-workout ProPlant shake. So the muscle recovery claim on the label checks out for me.

And thanks to the 10 grams of protein per serving, my muscles look firm and toned, too. Keep in mind that if you want toned, firm muscles, a protein shake alone won't do that for you. You have to put in the work.

Next, let's talk about the second claim on the label -- smooth digestion. What I love most about ProPlant is the fiber. With most protein shakes, you don't get that. But because the plant-based protein blend in this shake comes from hemp seeds, flaxseeds, and spirulina, you also get a lot of prebiotic fiber that helps promote smooth digestion, and ultimately regularity. Understand that these sources are some of the greatest sources for prebiotic fiber. And when you consume them regularly, you're keeping those good gut bugs very happy. A healthy microbiome is key to good health, and good poops. So, I can also verify that claim number two (no pun intended) on the label is true for me.

Now, let's talk about the third claim about ingredients. The label boasts lectin-free proteins, fiber, and micronutrients. The ingredients in this supplement are clean and simple. This shake mix contains a proprietary protein blend that includes hemp seed protein, flaxseeds, spirulina, natural vanilla flavor, sea salt, rebaudioside A, and xanthan gum. That's it. All of it is gut-friendly, and all of it is familiar. By the way, rebaudioside A is a steviol glycoside from the Stevia leaf. It's the sweetest, most concentrated, most stable of stevia sweetener -- more than 200 times sweeter than sugar. And it's the least bitter of stevias. Nothing but the best for us, right?

Did you notice that last ingredient -- xanthan gum? What is it? Xanthan gum is a fermented sugar that results in a good bacteria that we can use as a safe food thickener and stabilizer. Xanthan gum is really helpful in gluten free baking as it helps hold everything together. It's the very last ingredient in this supplement, just after the tiny bit of very concentrated stevia, which means there isn't much of it in there, but just enough to do it's job. Plus our guts love it, and it loves our guts.

Finally, and most importantly for some of us, how does ProPlant vanilla taste? I absolutely love the natural vanilla flavor. I actually prefer it over the chocolate. And, the vanilla flavor lends itself better to fruit smoothies and green shakes. I prefer to mix it with water for the best consistency. If you mix it with coconut milk, as suggested on the label, you may find the shake is unappetizingly thick. So for my daily shake, I use water.

Speaking of which, here is the recipe for my post-workout shake and something a little naughtier using Gundry MD ProPlant vanilla.

Kristine's Post-Workout Shake

1 Scoop ProPlant Vanilla

1/2 Frozen Green Banana

1 Tbsp Blanched Almond Butter

1 Handful Fresh Spinach

1/4 Cup Ice

8 oz Water

Just throw it all in a blender and whip until smooth.

ProPlant Holiday Nog

1 Scoop ProPlant Vanilla

1 Cup Almont Milk

1 Cup Coconut Milk

1 Frozen Green Banana

1 tsp Ground Cloves

1 Cup Organic Whipped Cream

4 oz Barrel-aged Whiskey or Dark Rum

Just blend ProPlant with the nut milks, green banana and clove. Then pour evenly into four martini glasses. To each glass, add 1 ounce of spirits (optional). Stir gently with a bar spoon. Finally, top with a dollop of whipped cream. Dust with ground cloves for a festive nog.

I've had many people tell me they drink this all year long. No need to wait for Santa.

To conclude this review, let me just say that Gundry MD ProPlant Complete Shake in the vanilla flavor does everything it says and more. The general taste and texture of the shake mixed up is quite palate pleasing. Your gut will love it too with the clean, fiber-rich plant proteins like hemp, flax and spirulina. Use it as directed or make a fruit or green smoothie. You'll probably love it as much as I do.

Thanks for reading my review, and cheers to a healthy gut!

How about the cons? I usually like to read the cons of something before looking at the pros. I find it helpful to consider potential downsides or issues first before thinking about upsides. 849 angel number
